Running a Barometer Howell Movement with some some tables slow to move. At table 5 on the first board of the next round, the bidding has commenced; North: 1NT;  East: Pass;  South: 2 Clubs. At this round another pair arrive and it is realised  that the seated E/Wpair are at the wrong table. How does one handle the situation?.

Matthew McManus

This situation is covered by Law 15. The Director first moves the players to their correct seats. At Table 5, the auction is started again. NS must repeat the calls that they made in the first auction. If any of the calls made by EW in the new auction differ from those in the original auction, then the board is cancelled and average plus awarded to both sides.

If the pair who originally sat incorrectly in the EW seats have not yet played this board, then the Director will follow a similar procedure when they later are due to play the board. (In a Howell movement, this may also include arrowswitching the board if they would normally have played it as NS.)
